Sara Mertens
NL - Sara Mertens woont en werkt in Antwerpen. Ze studeerde Illustratie aan KASK Gent. In de beelden die ze maakt, probeert ze steeds de grens tussen droom en werkelijkheid op te zoeken. Ze illustreerde onder andere voor De Standaard, Humbug, Rekto:verso, DW B, Bij Nader Inzien en TUIGkrant. Ze ontwierp boek- en cd covers alsook de huisstijl en labels voor Figa Kombucha. Enkele van haar beeldverhalen zijn gepubliceerd op Pulp deLuxe. Na haar residentie in Assisi volgde een residentie in Het Bos (April 2023), waar ze ook deelnam aan de expo Vruchtbare Grond. Ze ging mee met de schrijfresidentie van De Buren in Parijs (Zomer 2023). Hierna publiceerde ze het kortverhaal ‘Materiaalmoeheid’ in Stripgids en gaf ze een beeldverhaal uit in eigen beheer.
ENG - Sara Mertens lives and works in Antwerp. She studied illustration at KASK Ghent. In the images she creates, she always tries to seek the boundary between dream and reality. She illustrated among others for De Standaard, Humbug, Rekto:verso, DW B, Bij Nader Inzien and TUIGkrant. She designed book and CD covers as well as the corporate identity and labels for Figa Kombucha. Some of her visual stories have been published on Pulp deLuxe. Her residency in Assisi was followed by a residency in The Forest (April 2023), where she also participated in the expo Fertile Ground. She joined the writing residency of The Neighbors in Paris (Summer 2023). After this, she published the short story “Material Fatigue” in Comic Guide and published a graphic novel on her own.
